| The forest dweller returns,
shunning all contact with the outside world but compelled to deliver
another ambient collection of distinct Black Metal. Now, Australia's
Striborg will not appeal to everyone, particularly Black Metal fans
expecting hard-driving and extreme sounds. No, mastermind Sin Nanna is driven by bleak and sinister forces found only in the darkest and abandoned places of the earth, for it is here that they speak and are transmuted to the aural dissonance on display in The Foreboding Silence. Expect lots of guitar drone, cymbal-driven percussion, a plodding place, and repulsive rasps. Bass licks and keyboard washes complete the sound, which could be compared to the likes of Xasthur, Catacombs, or even Fear Of Eternity but has its own conspicuous vibe. Best listened to when alone and in the dark, where the music and your own thoughts come together and resonate like distant thunder. (OR) |
